Browser Selection
Popular web browsers are not all alike; each is a sophisticated application with its own unique qualities. The browser you choose will significantly impact the speed and performance of Artsystem5. Even the look and feel will be different depending on the browser.
Currently, we recommend FIREFOX and OPERA for best overall performance. Chrome, Explorer, and Safari do not perform as well with A5. However, as A5 and all browsers are regularly updated, this advice may change. Please check in with our System Requirements page for the latest recommendation.
Dedicated Browser
We highly recommend using a separate browser application for Artsystem5. Establishing A5 as the homepage, and clearing cache (see below) are far more convenient with a dedicated browser. Also, try to limit the number of open tabs on all open browsers to those currently in use, as open tabs can take up valuable Internet bandwidth and computer memory. Whether you follow this guidance can have a major impact on the performance of any application on your computer, including A5.
Clearing Cache
Web browsers store lots of data and images in their ‘cache’. Working efficiently and protecting your privacy is enhanced significantly by regularly clearing your browser cache, ideally before each time you log in to A5.
Some browsers can be set to clear their cache automatically upon launch or close. In addition, you can manually clear the browser cache at any time via the browser settings. To make it easier, there are browser extensions that will place a button on the browser’s navigation bar, allowing you to clear its cache with a simple click.
This Firefox extension adds a ‘broom’ button.
This Opera extension adds a ‘recycle’ button.
Internet Connection
Restart your router regularly
One of the simplest ways to improve performance is to reboot (restart) your router at least once a month. You can do this by turning the router off (perhaps by unplugging), waiting 30 seconds, and turning it back on. This gives your device a break and refreshes your internet connection.
Beware of data caps
A data cap limits the amount of data you can use every month. This is especially relevant when logging into A5 using a mobile device connected to a cellular network. Exceeding data limits can result in restricted data transfer speeds and or additional charges from your ISP. Check your bill or talk to your provider about your plan to make sure your limit is high enough for your business.
Reposition WIFI or add a MESH network
WiFi is a radio signal. Walls and distance can weaken the speed and connection stability, so placing your WiFi tower in a visible line-of-sight is always best. Better yet, install a Mesh Network. Mesh Networks amplify and overlap your WiFi signal by placing multiple mini-towers around the space, and are especially helpful in spreading your signal from room to room through lightly constructed walls.
Ethernet beats WIFI
A hardwired Ethernet connection is always faster and more secure than a wireless connection. Also remember that older computers and tablets have older, slower WiFi receivers; increasing your Internet and WiFi speed won’t help if your device doesn’t have the capacity to receive a faster signal.
Install virus/malware scanners
We highly recommend installing anti-virus and malware-scanning software. Viruses or malware lurking on your computer are dangerous to your security and your Internet speed. Once installed, set it to scan for viruses and malware automatically on a regular basis.
Email Configuration
Sending email using Artsystem5 is a streamlined process that can be initiated for records within any module and also for reports. A5 can send email using any existing account that allows SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) relay service. An email account can be setup as a global account, allowing all users to send emails from a common address, or on an individual user basis, with just a few simple steps.
Configure email by clicking on SETTINGS>Advanced and refer to our Email Account Configuration document for detailed information.
Grammarly Plugin
Grammarly is a writing assistant plugin, or extension, that can be added to many web browsers, and sometimes comes bundled for a free trial. This plugin is incompatible with Artsystem5, and will cause edited fields to display undefined after saving changes.
If you are experiencing this issue; please logout from A5, uninstall or disable the extension, and then log back in again.
Issue Reporting
The development team at Artsystems releases production updates on a regular basis to supplement the many A5 features and correct for outstanding issues. These updates provide increased functionality and ongoing stability for all users.
If you encounter an issue while using Artsystem5, it is helpful to follow these simple steps to get back up and running again quickly:
- Make a screenshot of any error messages
- Note what clicks or actions may have preceded the error
- Clear the browser cache completely
- Quit, and then re-start the browser
- Send any useful information to Artsystems Support
